Green New Deal for Public Schools Act

This bill would create an Office of Sustainable Schools in the Department of Education and several federal grant programs for public schools and schools funded by the Bureau of Indian Education. It would provide $446 billion over 10 years for the Department of Energy to fund retrofits and new construction that convert schools to all-electric, zero-carbon buildings, with labor rules such as prevailing wages and Buy American requirements. It would provide $250 billion over 10 years for grants that hire school staff such as teachers, counselors, nurses, and paraprofessionals, and $100 million for regional education equity planning. It would also set mandatory funding levels for special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and appropriate $74 billion per year for 10 years for Title I school funding.
