AI Advertising Disclosure Act

Refreshed 2 h ago

Introduced 2026-08-24Topic: economy jobs

Summary

AI-generated summary, report an error

This bill would require companies that run AI chatbots or AI search summary features with more than 50,000 monthly users to disclose when a response promotes or mentions a product, service, or company because of a paid or other commercial arrangement. Disclosures would have to be visible without scrolling, in plain language, state the type of relationship, and stay with saved or shared conversations. Companies could not let their AI deny being AI or hide commercial relationships when asked, and would have to keep a registry of commercial arrangements and let users ask whether a response was influenced by one. The Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general, and injured individuals could enforce the rules, with individuals able to seek up to $1,000 per violation. The law would take effect 12 months after enactment.
